Gunditj Mirring | 40,000 years

Tarrington was originally named Hochkirch meaning ‘High Church’ by its German founders in 1853. The town name was changed to Tarrington in 1918 due to world events at the time.

The historic Tarbor Luthern Church at Tabor, south of Tarrington is a magnificent and well kept visual historical record of the strong German Lutheran past in this region and a fantastic example of the influence the German Settlers stamped on this Town.

The Early Lutheran Settlers were drawn to Tarrington as there was a shortage of agricultural workers in Victoria, many arrived from South Australia and some establish vineyards. The German influence still remains and has many wineries to visit.

Lake Linlithgow is a short drive from Tarrington. The Lake is open to the public
in daytime hours and is ideal for fishing, canoeing and other water sports.
